Jim Corbett National Park- A Wacky Experience

Home to a variety of flora and fauna, Jim Corbett is famous for feral population of Tigers, Leopards and Elephants. Corbett national park established in 1936, is Asia’s first national park and India’s first Tiger Reserve supports an array of plant life making it the idyllic haunt for tiger.

Corbett lies in the Nainital, Pauri Garwhal and Bijnore Districts of Uttaranchal.Its geographical location, present an outstanding array of landscapes. It is also a rich cache of history and cultural heritage. This stunning combination of habitat supports numerous plant and animal species. The most famous are the Tigers and the Elephants.

Attractions in Corbett

Corbett is a refuge for Tigers, Deer, Wild Boar, Leopard and some lesser-known animals. Some night cats found here are the Leopard Cat, Jungle Cat and Fishing Cat. Others include Sloth Bear, Himalayan Black Bear, Dole or Wild Dog and the Jackal.
Some of the smaller residents of the park are Himalayan Palm Civet, Indian Gray Mongoose, Common Otter, Black aped Hare and Porcupine. One can also spot the, Gharial Crocodile and the ‘Mugger’ Crocodile. Also seen are the Langur and Rhesus Monkeys which are well distributed through out the park.Jim Corbett also has some special bird species .

Jeep Safari

An expedient way of screening wildlife is in open four-wheeled jeeps which can be rented for the park trips. Each jeep have room for 6 persons .Besides the visitors, the jeep has an able driver and a skilled nature guide. These guides help tourist’s experience wildlife and make sure that they do not lose their way inside the forest. Definite paths are maintained and driving astray is not allowed for reasons of security.

Elephant Safari
The best way to explore the park is on an elephant’s back. It allows traveling deeper into the wasteland and getting closer to wildlife because the height of the massive helps to viewing the wildlife species very clearly. Thus it is perfect for wildlife enthusiasts, nature lovers and adventure seekers. The ride is packed with feral adventure.

Fishing

Fishing is allowed in certain areas in Corbett but only after taking sanction from the department. The species include Mahseer (fresh water flaking fish) especially the Silver and Black Mahseer which is available on the Ramganga / Kosi rivers. Besides the Goonch, a fresh water scavenger is also another species that boom in these rivers.

Bird Watching
With more than 1000 Species of Birds including Migratory, Corbett is an ecstasy for bird watchers. One can view birds like Himalayan swiftlet, Alpine Swift, Eurasian wryneck, woodpecker, Ashy woodswallow, flycatcher, Blyth’s Reed, Dusky, tickell’s leaf, hume’s, treecreeper, Blue rock thrush, blue whistling thrush, Oriental skylark, yellow eyed babbler, Ashy primnia and many more.
